[music]
year ago, it was basically a blog post.
I don't think anyone really anticipated
that MCP would take off like it did.
When I first encountered MCP, it just
clicked.
Before MCP, we were living in ancient
times in terms of using LLM.
>> There was really no way for a developer
to put their workflows into existing
platforms like Cloudi or Chati. The
world is built on a lot of complex
systems and we need to connect AI models
to all of that.
>> We knew very early that MCP needed to be
open source. [music]
What surprised me the most is just how
quickly it built an organic community.
It's been very collaborative has this
really robust stack of people working on
this from the biggest companies to
individual open source developers.
[music]
>> MCP has already moved beyond just
developers. There's so many exciting
opportunities for extension. All sorts
of companies that worked in the identity
and security space, banking, healthcare,
they were there from the day zero.
>> I am very grateful for the adoption that
it has seen and I'm very grateful being
part of building something that was
quite transformative. We are donating
MCP to a new foundation that we're
creating called the Aentic AI [music]
Foundation which is under the Linux
Foundation.
>> Improvement is going to be done by
essentially collective action [music] in
a way that sustains his growth that
sustains his community. This is really
the next big step to make sure [music]
everybody in the world can safely adopt
MCP.
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) started as a small idea for an open way for AI models to connect to tools, systems, and developer workflows. It turned into one of the fastest-growing open standards in AI. In this video, engineers and maintainers from Anthropic, GitHub, Microsoft, and OpenAI share how MCP “just clicked,” why openness was essential from day zero, and what its move to the Linux Foundation means for developers building agents and AI-powered tools. Watch the story behind MCP’s momentum, community, and new home under the Agentic AI Foundation.
