Rust in 2026 is poised to be a natural fit for foundational software. If we take a step back, many safety-critical systems are entirely foundational: it should be taken as a given that when pressing the brake pedal the vehicle will come to a stop. Safety-critical industries such as Automotive are regulated by standards that dictate certain things not yet present and readily available to push Rust to every level of safety-criticality. In this talk Pete will discuss the landscape of Rust’s ability for usage in safety-critical systems and how the Safety-Critical Rust Consortium is addressing the gaps.
