With the rise of agentic AI, we have identified great new opportunities for Flink. We believe the future of agentic applications is industrialized, where agents will not only be triggered by users, but increasingly by systems as well, from clickstreams and sensor telemetry to transactions and alerts. System-triggered agents must run continuously, act autonomously, and recover from failure without manual intervention. Flink's capabilities in real-time distributed event processing, state management and exact-once consistent fault tolerance make it well-suited as a framework for building such agents. Furthermore, system-triggered agents are often tightly coupled with data processing. Flink's outstanding data processing capabilities brings seamless integration between data and agentic processings, differentiate it from other agent frameworks. Therefore, we initiated Flink Agents, a new sub-project of Apache Flink, for building Agentic AI applications. We are targeting a MVP release by the date of the conference.
