Learn more at https://kubecon.io How We Built an Internal Developer Platform and Evolved It Into Open Source - Gang Luo & Kristina Kondrashevich, Electrolux Group At Electrolux Group, we operate in the IoT space, powering connected appliances across global markets. As our engineering organization grew from 10 to 300 developers with only 5 Ops engineers, we needed a scalable way to support delivery without slowing teams down. We first adopted SRE practices, but they proved difficult to scale across diverse product teams. Instead, we baked SRE principles directly into our platform. Using Backstage, OpenTofu, and custom platform APIs, we built an Internal Developer Platform (IDP) that automated infrastructure provisioning, standardized tools, and enabled self-service for developers. Over time, the IDP evolved into an open-source platform focused on cloud infrastructure management, making these capabilities accessible to others. In this talk, we’ll share our journey from SRE to Platform Engineering. We will cover the architecture, lessons learned, and how open-sourcing reshaped our approach to DevOps and developer productivity at scale.
